Bogra is one of the remarkable towns in Bangladesh. It is in the north side of the country. Bogra is called the gateway of North-Bengal.

There is a history of naming “Bogra” of the town. Nasir Uddin (Bogra Khan 1279-82), the son of Gias Uddin Bolben (The emperor of Delhi during the sultani reign) was the ruler of independent Bengal. He was also a well and justice ruler like his father. The proverb says, Bogra town was named as “Bogra” according to Bogra khan. But a strong evidence shows that the town was known as Pundra Nagar or Pundra Bardhan before Sultani reign. This Pundra Bardhan was the capital of ancient Pundra State.

The place was not well accepted as Bogra town to the people of the then Bengali. But in 1821 the place expresses itself was “Bogra Town” in the East-Bengal. It is under Rajshahi Division.

Bogra stands on the both sides of the river Karatoa. Now the town is well furnished. The Satmatha is called the centre of the heart of Bogra. It is the main point of the town. As a small town Bogra has obtained a significant goodwill. It is also famous for it’s curd.

Bogra has obtained the fourth place form industrial side of the country. The river Karatoa has divided the town into two parts. It flows with murmuring sound during the rainy season.

Bogra is called the gateway of North Bengal. It has linked up the North Bengal with the capital city Dhaka.

The proportion of the length and width is 2:0.5 (in miles). It is a popular town. Different religious people live here. Most of them are Muslims.

Bogra is well known as a learning centre. Govt. Azizul Haque college, a reputed college in Bangladesh is situated here. There are also some govt. and non govt. school and colleges here. Shahid Zia Medical college and Mohammad Ali Hospital are serving the patients.
